Our Technology
OCULI Had the World's First True AI Vision Solution
Specifically designed from the ground up to duplicate human vision for Physical AI, the OCULI solution enables ultra-low power, low latency, high speed, low system-level cost, and built-in privacy. OCULI invented “in-pixel computing” to enable a chip-level sensing and processing unit, or SPU. This is AI Vision. The OCULI solution redefines inference processing for smart vision processing that is done on-chip at the pixel level. This is the Edge of the Edge.

Sensing and Processing Unit | The OCULI SPU™
“That is the kind of application that I personally get excited about” Charbel Rizk
At the core of our innovation is the Sensing and Processing Unit (SPU) , a groundbreaking integration of sensor and processing capabilities, invented specifically for Vision Intelligence applications. Unlike traditional sensors, the OCULI SPU is engineered to optimize the processing of visual data at the point of capture, enhancing both performance and efficiency.
From a semiconductor and manufacturing standpoint, OCULI leverages low-cost CMOS process technology and the ecosystem built for the billions of CMOS Image Sensors (CIS) developed over the last few decades, implementing its solution using a stacked Back Side Illumination (BSI) manufacturing approach.
Our SPUs integrate OCULI’s IntelliPixel® technology, which allows each pixel in the sensor array to act not only as a point of light capture but also as an intelligent processor. This dual capability enables the OCULI SPU to selectively capture and process data, dramatically reducing data redundancy and ensuring that only pertinent information is transmitted for further analysis. One Sensor Infinite Configurations:Software-Defined Matters
One chip. Reconfigured in real time. Built for whatever comes next
Traditional vision sensors are fixed-function built once, optimized for a single job, and difficult to repurpose. The OCULI SPU works differently: nearly every aspect of the sensor can be reconfigured in real time through software rather than new hardware.
The same chip can output full-frame video, just like any conventional image sensor or scale down to what OCULI calls “actionable information”: a minimal, highly efficient data stream containing only what a system actually needs to act on. That output level can be adjusted continuously, in real time, without changing the underlying hardware. One chip. Many applications.
This is what makes the OCULI SPU a true Software Defined Vision Sensor™. The same technology can power a wearable, a defense platform, or a smart city sensor, simply by changing how it’s configured in software.Every Pixel Thinks: Inside IntelliPixel® Technology
The eye doesn’t send everything to the brain, Neither OCULI
Human eyes don’t just capture light and pass it straight to the brain they process what matters and filter out the rest, long before an image ever reaches conscious perception. Right now, as you read this sentence, your eyes are prioritizing this screen and deprioritizing everything around it, without any conscious effort on your part.
IntelliPixel® brings that same principle to silicon. Each pixel in an OCULI sensor includes its own logic and small memory, enough for the pixel itself to decide whether something of interest is happening, and to process it in place rather than waiting for a separate downstream processor. This parallel, in-pixel computation is what lets the SPU turn a gigabits per second data problem into a kilobits per second one dramatically reducing what needs to be transmitted, analyzed or stored.
Send What You Need: Rethinking the Traditional Camera Sensor
Beyond pixels-per-frame. Beyond events-per-change. This is intelligence-per-pixel
Traditional CMOS sensors capture everything, every cycle built for photos, not decisions. Event-based sensors improved on this by reporting only pixel changes, but they can miss meaningful information when nothing is technically “moving.” The OCULI SPU takes a different approach: intelligence lives at the pixel itself.
The OCULI SPU solves the problem at its source instead. Rather than capturing everything and sorting it out later, the SPU decides what’s relevant at the pixel, before it ever needs to be transmitted, processing only the most relevant information significantly faster, at a fraction of the power draw, while protecting privacy and data security at the sensor itself.
The Performance Gap
Military-grade performance. Wearable-grade power
30,000 FPS at under 0.3W
Demonstrated to outperform expensive military imaging systems extreme speed at a fraction of the power.
Sub-5ms latency
Decisions happen at the point of capture, with no cloud round-trip - critical response time for autonomous systems and live detection.
$40M+ in research investment
The core SPU technology was developed through over $40M in research at Johns Hopkins University, with OCULI holding exclusive worldwide rights.
Milliwatt-level power draw
For most real-world applications, the SPU runs on just milliwatts of power according to founder and CEO Dr. Charbel Rizk.
From City Streets to Defense Platforms
One architecture. Every environment. Zero compromises
The same programmable SPU architecture has already been demonstrated across a wide range of real applications:
Flash-flood and rainfall monitoring detecting and estimating rainfall intensity with no hardware changes required
Face detection at ultra-low bandwidth real-time detection running at kHz speeds with minimal data output
AR/VR gesture and eye tracking enabling natural, immersive interaction for consumer devices
Smart city infrastructure traffic and pedestrian monitoring with privacy-first, on-device processing
Defense and unmanned platforms ultra-low SWaP vision for autonomous and unmanned systems, with complete edge autonomy and no network dependency
Ready to Get Started?
You’ve seen what the OCULI SPU can perform real time vision intelligence at the pixel, ultra-low power, and performance that outpaces conventional and even military-grade imaging systems. The question isn’t whether this technology works. It’s whether it’s the right fit for what you’re building.
The only way to know for sure is to put it in your hands. Through our Evaluation Programs, you can test the SPU directly against your own use case, no long procurement cycle, no guesswork, just real performance data on your own timeline. Whether you’re exploring a single proof of concept or planning a production integration, our team will help you find the right starting point.
